Pumpkin-dream dessert

The payoff for the cake that had been cooling on the counter. I layered it up after dinner, let it set for about an hour with the lights on low and the Zelda soundtrack coming from the living room, and we ate it while it was still a little soft. The crushed nuts on top were what made it feel fall, I think. Or the cinnamon. Or the fact that we’d been sitting at the table for three hours and didn’t want it to be over.

A white plate with a thick square of layered dessert - a pale cake base, a pumpkin-orange cream layer, a fat cap of whipped cream, and a scatter of crushed nuts and cinnamon on top.
